Longborough Festival Opera announces collaboration with The Academy of Ancient Music in 2020

Longborough Festival Opera will collaborate with the Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) for its production of Monteverdi The Return of Ulysses in 2020. Robert Howarth will conduct Monteverdi’s beautiful, compassionate drama, with Tom Randle in the title role.

The performances mark AAM’s debut at Longborough Festival Opera. Speaking about the partnership, AAM Chief Executive Alexander Van Ingen comments:
“The Academy of Ancient Music is very pleased to be working with Longborough Festival Opera for Monteverdi's The Return of Ulysses in July 2020. Having performed this work to critical acclaim with Robert Howarth in 2017, we're very excited to be re-united for a new production directed by Polly Graham in the beautiful surroundings of Longborough. I'm sure that Robert's first-class musicianship combined with the extraordinary expertise of AAM's players and Polly’s bold and powerful direction will make this period-instrument opera one to remember.”

The production will also mark Longborough Artistic Director Polly Graham’s directing debut at the festival.
She comments: “I am so thrilled that Longborough is joining forces with the Academy of Ancient Music. They are musicians of the highest calibre and they have worked with our conductor Rob Howarth on many occasions. I cannot wait to create our new production of The Return of Ulysses with them as a part of the creative team in 2020.”
