Welsh National Opera has begun its first full season at the Wales Millennium Centre with Don Carlos, using a text as complete as anyone could wish. That means inserting the parts Verdi cut, for reasons of expediency, during rehearsals for the 1867 Paris premiere, and which lay unperformed until Andrew Porter discovered them in the OpÈraís archive a century later.
