‘Socrate immaginario’, a biting and provocative ‘commedia per musica’ ñ the text of which was probably the result of collaboration between an expert librettist the likes of Giovan Battista Lorenzi and the keen intellect of Ferdinando Galiani ñ returns to the San Carlo Theatre after forty years, thanks to Roberto De Simone, who, as the playbill explains, has edited the music and come up with a ‘dramaturgical rewriting’ of the opera.
