Blood, mud and madness are the key ingredients of David Freemanís new Wozzeck for Brusselsí La Monnaie. At the end of the evening, when Marieís throat has been slit and Wozzeck has sunk to his death beneath the murky water, it is Alban Bergís music that leaves the strongest impression, a timeless story flawlessly told.
