If being a good artist is knowing when to stop, then Stefan Herheim’s staging of Dvor·k’s best-loved opera fails the test. He and Krzysztof Warlikowski are part of a new generation of producers who have dumped misÈrabilisme and put the fun back into opera with extravagant sets and stimulating cross references.
