The New York City Operaís new production of ìCosÏ Fan Tutteî takes place in what seems to be an outsize camera obscura. People had the idea for this precursor of photography as far back as the ancient Greeks. Working models began to appear in the 16th century. Images from outside entered a dark enclosure through a lens and projected themselves on inner walls.
