It was during the interval in the îfamily circleî at New Yorkís Metropolitan Opera that the elderly lady with the German accent told the guffawing man in the row behind us that Mozartís Magic Flute wasnít supposed to be funny. She wasnít much taken either by the productionís flapping puppets and dancing bears.
