The glorious, poignant sprawl of Don Carlo returned almost triumphantly to Lincoln Center on Thursday. Equally responsive to Verdiís dramatic bravado and lyrical introspection, James Levine sustained breadth and tension in the pit. He also reinforced his reputation as a masterly accompanist.
