It is difficult these days to cast Wagnerís music- dramas, and finding a proper baritone for Verdi is a strenuous challenge. Opera companies everywhere suddenly seem capable, however, of handling Handel. Never mind the ornate convolutions of line, style and plot. Basking in the baroque has become an international pursuit.
